A tragic case claimed the lives of the parents of a girl named Jennifer Pan. She almost killed her father, while her mother died because of her intention to kill her. The reason is only because of depression and her parents demanded her to continue to be an outstanding child in school.

Jennifer's parents always thought their child had a special intelligence. She was an outstanding student during his studies at Catholic High School and easily graduated from the University of Toronto Canada which is known as a favorite campus.

Jennifer's parents are refugees from Vietnam, and while in Canada, they have to work hard as laborers to support their two children. This is the reason Jennifer's parents have very high expectations so that their daughter can study hard, even having to excel in the field of education she is pursuing.

Her parents really value education. They were also disciplined parents, tending to be strict, with Jennifer and her younger brother, Felix.

Jennifer is a special kid and is the pride of her parents. Jennifer is disciplined in taking piano and skating lessons, and masters both very well. Jennifer also practices martial arts and is a good swimmer. And outside of extracurricular activities, she is a model student who diligently studies late into the night. Parties and dating are forbidden in his house. Education is everything.

It's sad, that behind all the impressive things, hidden lies, hatred, and revenge then lead to a terrible act that destroys Jennifer's family and herself: a sadistic murder.

All her parents' expectations turned out to be making Jennifer feel depressed. While in grade 8, Jennifer's learning achievement began to drop. She was no longer enthusiastic about studying, her grades began to drop, and slowly her confidence decreased. To cover it up, Jennifer begins to lie until lying becomes a habit. And the girl lives a double life full of lies and deception.

Jennifer's parents thought her daughter was a model student, a grade "A" student. However, in reality, she was only a class "B".

Getting a "B" is still pretty good for other students. However, in Jennifer's family, it is a disgrace. To cover it up, Jennifer falsified her report card, covering up her incompetence. However, her grades were still decent, and she was accepted at Ryerson University in Toronto.

However, she did not get it, because she failed in calculus at the end of her studies. Not wanting to disappoint her parents, the bespectacled woman pretended to be in college.

She said she would study science for 2 years at Ryerson University, before continuing her studies in pharmacy at the prestigious University of Toronto.

Jennifer collects used books, lying that she got a scholarship so her parents don't suspect why they're never asked for money to pay for college. Every morning Jennifer said goodbye to her parents for college. However, instead of going to campus, she went to a library.

Arriving at graduation, the black-haired girl lied again by saying, the invitations distributed to the parents were limited. Because of being caught lying, Jennifer's parents became increasingly strict. The lie went smoothly until one-day they became suspicious of their daughter's behavior. Both were stalking Jennifer who claimed to work at a hospital. When the lie was exposed, not only her parents' hearts were broken. Jennifer was even more depressed.

Her parents became harsher and harsher on their daughter who was an adult. Cell phones are banned, computers are illegal, and Jennifer is not allowed to date her boyfriend Daniel Wong. In fact, the odometer or distance indicator on the car is always monitored.

Jennifer was ordered to continue her education. Strict supervision was imposed on the adult woman.

Daniel then cut ties. It was a crisis point for her. After breaking up, Jennifer became close to a man named Andrew Montemayor, a school friend she had at elementary school.

She also began to think about how to escape from all the pressure. Together with Montemayor and her new lover's roommate, Ricardo Duncan, they devise a plot.

However, what they devised was just a plan until their relationship broke up.

Jennifer was close again with Daniel. They plan to hire a bouncer. To teach a lesson to "parents who are considered too restrictive".

Jennifer gets Daniel's new cell phone, as well as contact with a man named Lenford "Homeboy" Crawford who asks for C$10,000 to prank the woman's parents.

Somehow initially, the plan became an assassination plot. Feeling that it was too far, Daniel backed off.

One night in 2010, Jennifer decided to execute her plan. At that time, the hour hand pointed to 22.00. Crawford, Mylvaganam, and a third man named Eric Carty entered the front door of the target's house. They all carry guns.

Her parents were forced to go downstairs. Their heads were covered with blankets. The father was shot twice, one in the face. While his mother was shot 3 times in the head and died instantly.

Miraculously, her father survived and remembers everything that happened at that terrible moment. In 2014, the trial of the case was held. When the guilty verdict was handed down, Jennifer did not show her emotions. However, when the media crew left the courtroom, she was crying and shaking uncontrollably.

With first-degree charges, Jennifer was sentenced to life, without the opportunity to apply for parole for 25 years.

She was 28 years old when she was sitting as a suspect. "And for the attempted murder charge against her father, she was also sentenced to receive a life sentence, which will be served concurrently."

Carty, Mylvaganam, and Crawford each received similar punishments.

Jennifer's father and her younger  brother life after the incident

"When I lost my wife, I lost my daughter at the same time," Hann wrote. "I don't feel like I have a family anymore. Some say I should feel lucky to be alive but I also feel dead." Hann and his son Felix cut off all communication with Jennifer after she was sentenced.

Hann survived the attack but left an indelible mark on his life. He is unable to work and suffers from anxiety attacks and nightmares. Hann was in constant pain, and nothing he did made him happy. He couldn't live in his house, so he lived with relatives. Hann had tried to sell the house, but no one would buy it.

Felix moved to the East Coast to escape the stigma associated with Jennifer Pan. However, he suffered from depression and became introverted. Jennifer wants to be free from the shackles her parents gave her, but her actions end up causing more pain for many people, especially her family.

The Truth Behind This Story

From the circulating story, there are two versions of this story.

First version

The first story tells the story of a girl named Maryam (Siti Ariah) who died around the Ancol bridge. She died because the men took turns in raping her. When they realized that Maryam was no longer alive, the rapists took the initiative to dump her body at the Ancol Bridge. Because Maryam died in an unnatural way, it is believed that her spirit still roams around the bridge and often disturbs the people around.

Second version

The second version of the mystery of the Ancol bridge is different from the first story, it is set in the 19th century when the Dutch still occupied the Jakarta area, formerly known as Batavia. At that time, there was a very beautiful young girl living in a pavilion belonging to a rich man. The girl's name is Maryam. She lives in the pavilion with her mother and sister.

Because of her beauty, many men are crazy about Maryam, including the owner of the Pavilion where Maryam lives. However, Maryam firmly refused the marriage invitation from the pavilion owner because she knew she would only be made as a concubine.

In short, Maryam ran away to avoid being forced by the rich boss who owned the pavilion where she lived to get married. Maryam's escape led her to the Ancol area. There she met Oey Tambahsia, a popular person and owner of a villa in the Bintang Mas area of Ancol.

Oey, who was attracted by Maryam's beauty, then ordered his men to catch Maryam to be a mistress. When about to be caught by the Oey's men, Maryam gave fierce resistance. Finally, at Dam Dempet near Lake Sunter, which was popular at that time, witnessed the death of Maryam at the hands of two Oey's men.

Maryam's body was then dumped in the rice fields, about 400 meters from the Ancol Bridge. Departing from the story, around Sunter and Ancol there are frequent sightings of a cute girl who is believed to be the ghost of Maryam who wanders around.

Some True Stories of "The Sweet Lady" Sighting In The Ancol Area

There are several testimonies of people's stories about this lady that make goosebumps. Not just once the ghost of the sweet lady appears before humans. This ghost figure appeared from the 1960s to the 2000s.

1. The sweet lady on the boat

The first testimony from local residents who claimed to have seen the appearance of a lady ghost came from 1960. In that year the Ancol area was still dominated by ponds. According to the testimony of a resident, who is a boat rower. That night he wanted to go home. But in the middle of the trip suddenly there was a beautiful lady who came to him to ask to be delivered by boat.

After walking around the pond, the lady came down and paid some money to the rower. But after the girl left, the money that the lady had paid turned into a few leaves. The boat rower believes that the figure of the lady who rides the boat is the ghost of the sweet lady who wanders around.

2. The sweet lady who wants to be painted

Besides the sighting of the lady riding a boat, there is another true story of the sighting of the lady which is arguably the most famous that appeared in 1985. This time it came from a painter in the Ancol area named Mbah Broto. One night in the pouring rain, Mbah Broto was visited by a beautiful woman at his painting stall. The woman asked Mbah Broto to paint her.

When the painting was half-finished, Mbah Broto gave permission to go to the toilet. But when he returned, Mbah Broto was surprised because the woman he was painting had disappeared. Mbah also asked his friends who also opened a kiosk near his stall. They replied that the mysterious woman was going in a certain direction.

Mbah Broto then chased the woman until she could finally see her back. But what a surprise Mbah Broto suddenly saw the woman walking floating like a ghost. Mbah Broto and his friends then believed that the woman was the ghost of a sweet lady of Ancol Bridge.

THE DOODLER

THE DOODLER

A killer nicknamed The Doodler killed gay men in the 70s in the United States. He was nicknamed The Doodler because he first sketched his victims before killing them. As reported by Reuters, in this case, five white gay men are believed to have been murdered between January 1974 and June 1975. They were gay men belonging to the San Francisco gay community.

All of the victims suffered stab wounds to the chest and upper back. The results of the examination found the fact that the victim's wounds were from the same weapon. Two other men who were attacked by the perpetrators in July 1975, managed to survive and are also believed to be victims of the same perpetrators.

Before committing the murder, the perpetrator first drew a picture of the victim. Therefore he was nicknamed The Doodler.

Police released a sketch of the suspect a few months later after the incident. They repeatedly questioned one person. But The Doodler was never caught.

More than 40 years later, the San Francisco Police Department is more convinced of the suspect's characteristics. Reporting from CNN, a police sketching expert has updated the sketch of The Doodler. This sketch continues to be distributed.

"This case worried the gay community in San Francisco (at the time)," Commander Greg McEachern said in 2019. "There are many questions about why gay men were being targeted," he added.

Police Post Rewards for 'The Doodler'

The San Francisco Police, USA offers a reward of US$ 100 thousand for the hunters of The Doodler. In addition to announcing the rewards, police also released an audio recording of the anonymous call on January 27, 1974. The call reported the discovery of a body near Ocean Beach in the Bay Area. The caller, who did not want to be identified, had never been questioned by the police at that time.

In an effort to help with the hunt, the San Francisco Police Department has also released a sketch of the face of the latest version of this serial killer. The latest face sketch adapts the appearance of the perpetrator 40 years later, with a face that is older than the face sketch released in 1975.

San Francisco Police said they would also like to communicate with a psychiatrist from the Bay Area, who is thought to have the last name 'Priest'. The psychiatrist is believed to have treated the perpetrator at the time.

A new hunt for serial killer 'Doodler' was announced after the arrest of a suspect in a long-standing murder, robbery, and rape case in California. The perpetrator, nicknamed the 'Golden State Killer', who turned out to be a former police officer named Joseph James DeAngelo, 73, was arrested in April 2018.

The perpetrator was found thanks to an analysis of DNA evidence at the crime scene (TKP) with genetic information on a commercial genealogy site, which led to the finding of a family connection of the perpetrator. For the case of the serial killer 'Doodler', McEachern said DNA evidence had been submitted for examination and analysis, but the results had not yet been released.

To this day The Doodler is still being hunted.

THE STORY OF ROMANS WHO USED URINE AS A MOUTHWASH

Ever heard of urine for gargling? It seems very rare to do because the smell and taste are disgusting. But the ancient Romans used human and animal urine as mouthwashes to whiten their teeth. The thing is, it actually works.

Urine contains ammonia, nitrogen, and hydrogen compounds, which can act as cleaning agents. Today, ammonia is an ingredient in the most useful cleaning products for glass, porcelain, stainless steel, and for removing dirt from your oven, for example.

Even more surprising, at that time, there were public jars in which the Romans could urinate. Then the residents wait until the urine is sterile and dissolves into ammonia. When it is completely filled, the urine is collected and taken to a Fullonica, or Laundrette, to be diluted with water and poured on dirty clothes.

Urine collectors are taxed because of the smell. A worker would stand in a tub of urine and stomp on clothes, much like the stirrer of a modern washing machine. So, not just as a mouthwash, urine in ancient Rome was used as laundry soap. Emperor Nero of Vespasian imposed a urine tax because he saw the economic potential in it. Urine until the 18th century became one of the most commercial materials.

When compared with today's modern times, was urine very valuable to pre-industrial humans?

THE FROG BOYS MYSTERY

The case of the boys of frog (Korean: 개구리소년) is the case of the disappearance of 5 teenage boys in South Korea on March 26, 1991. The boys were looking for salamander eggs (misinterpreted by the media as frogs) near Mount Waryong but since then the five children have never returned. Their bodies were only found 11 years later. Although it is known that they were murdered, the case was never solved. This incident was later made the subject of two films, Come back, Frog Boys (1992) and Children (2011) as well as several songs.

VICTIMS

The five children aged between 9 and 13 years who were victims were:

-  U Cheol-Won (13)
-  Jo Ho-Yeon (12)
-  Kim Yeong-Gyu (11)
-  Park Chan-In (10)
-  Kim Jong-Sik (9)

CASES & INVESTIGATIONS

March 26, 1991 is a national holiday in South Korea because at that time the local elections were held in 1991. The children chose to catch Salamander eggs in a waterfall on Mount Waryong to spend the day off. After being reported missing, this case developed into national news. President Roh Tae-Woo ordered 300,000 police personnel to assist in the search for the 5 children, with search notices, live on TV.

Some of their parents are even willing to leave their jobs to travel across the country in search of their children. During the search, the police received 550 false reports. The search on Mount Waryong was carried out about 500 times before the children were finally found.

THE DISCOVERY OF THE BODY AND THE FINAL RESULT

In 2002, a man searching for acorns found the five children in a mountain area that had been checked several times by officials. The man claimed to have actually been notified by phone from someone he didn't know. At the initial examination, the police concluded that the children had died from hypothermia, but the parents of the children did not accept that conclusion and demanded a thorough examination. The family questioned the conclusion that the children had died as a result of getting lost due to the oddity of their clothes which were found bound and their bodies found not far from the village in an area where the children knew very well.

The forensics finally found that the children died because they were killed by being hit repeatedly in the head and one of them was shot with a shotgun. In 2006, the period of this case had expired and was declared to have expired, so that if this case can be solved now or in the future, the state law has no right and is unable to punish anyone.

The police said that they would continue their investigation, to uncover the truth. A funeral service for the children was held on March 25, 2004, and the skulls of the five boys were donated to become the object of medical research.
