QUEEN ELIZABETH II & WORLD WAR 2 - THE SERVICE OF HER MAJESTY

Did you know that Queen Elizabeth II served in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service during the Second World War? So what exactly did she do during the Second World War?

As reported by The Independent, when the Second World War began in 1939, Princess Elizabeth was 13 years old while her younger sister, Princess Margaret, was nine years old. At that time it was suggested that the young princesses should be evacuated abroad, namely to North America or Canada.

However, the Queen Mother (who was Queen at the time) was adamant and refused to leave. She stated the children would not leave without him. In addition, she added that will not leave the King.

Eventually, the princesses remained in England and continued to move between Balmoral Castle in Scotland, Sandringham House, and Windsor Castle, before settling down for several years.

In 1940, Princess Elizabeth made her first radio broadcast, dealing with child refugees.

"We are trying to do all we can to help our brave sailors, soldiers, and airmen, and we are also trying to bear our own share of the dangers and sorrows of war," he told BBC Children's Hour.

As Princess Elizabeth approaches her 18th birthday, she feels the need to get involved in the ongoing War. In 1945, Life magazine published an article stating that after “long deliberation”, King George VI had decided that she could join any women’s auxiliaries, or work in factories”.

However, shortly thereafter, it was stated that she had been awarded a commission as a second honorary subordinate in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) on February 24, 1945.

Once she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service, Princess Elizabeth was trained as a chauffeur. After passing the military driving test, she became the driver of the Second Subaltern Windsor Unit.

She was later promoted to the rank of honorary junior commander, which at that point would be the female equivalent of being captain.

One day, she received a visit from his mother, Queen Elizabeth, who watched as her daughter explained what her role was.

In an issue of Life magazine published in 1945, it was explained that although the princess began serving in the armed forces, she did not sleep in the camp but settled every night at Windsor Castle.

The Queen went on to become the first female member of the royal family to serve in the armed forces and is the only surviving head of state in the Second World War.

CRAZY LOVE OF LINDA & BURT PUGACH - LOVE IS BLIND

CRAZY LOVE OF LINDA & BURT PUGACH - LOVE IS BLIND

Photo: nytimes.com

He only had eyes for his lover. He tried hard to get it. So he hired three men to throw acid that blinded his lover. Until finally, her blind lover married him.

Linda Riss was only 20 years old when she met a man who stole her heart. Linda is absolutely beautiful, with flawless skin and big brown eyes - "like a painting", as her friends said.

Burt Pugach is a successful lawyer, used to getting what he wanted, and he wanted Linda. Their relationship was to become an extraordinary love affair – twisted, passionate, and sometimes bitter.

If Linda had known that her lover would eventually trick her, stalk her, assault and blind her, and then go to jail for it - perhaps she would have turned away when she introduced herself on an autumn day in 1957.

Or maybe she would not have. Because when he was released from prison 14 years later, he married her. They were still married until death did them part.

In 1959 Pugach began dating Linda Riss, a 21-year-old woman from the East Bronx. After learning that Pugach has a wife and daughter, Riss breaks off their relationship. Pugach then threatened to kill or harm Riss if she left him, saying, "If I can't have you, no one else will have you, and when I contact you, no one else will want you." Riss reported threats to the New York Police Department to no avail. Upon hearing of his engagement to Larry Schwartz, Pugach hired three attackers to attack Riss. The assailant threw lye in Riss' face, leaving her blind in one eye, nearly blind in the other, and with an eternal scar. Pugach was convicted of the guilt and spent 14 years in prison, during which time he continued to write letters to Riss.

Even more strange is that after 23 years of marriage to Linda, in 1997 Burt was arrested and tried for stalking a secretary from the Philippines with whom Burt had an affair for five years, and Linda continued to support Burt. “Burt was a wonderful and devoted husband,” she testified. This time the news made national headlines. Their relationship remains a mystery – what keeps her going? Was it the triumph of forgiveness, obsessive devotion, or self-delusion? Or is Linda looking to Burt for financial protection?

ELEPHANT HELICOPTER IN INDIAN AIRFORCE

ELEPHANT HELICOPTER IN INDIAN AIRFORCE

Photo: livehistoryindia.com

In the 1960s, India reached an agreement with the French Aerospace Corporation to produce and assemble the "Skylark" III helicopter.

India re-assembles the helicopter with their own style and design.

For the helicopter design, they used an elephant design because India has always identified with the "elephant" animal as a form of the national totem.

For this reason, the overall shape of the helicopter "Skylark" III was modified and forcibly added various ornaments to resemble an elephant-like shape.

Quoted from Day Day, the modified helicopter was the work of a tailor in New Delhi.

The elephant's body, including the trunk and legs, is made of various colorful fabric panels that are painstakingly sewn over two or three weeks.

The hull or fuselage of the helicopter is covered with fabric panels, the only part left exposed is the bomb launcher at the rear.

The Indian helicopter was then known to the world as the flying elephant because its shape resembles an elephant.

Although the "Skylark" III helicopter is a classic cargo that has been in service since the late 1950s, it has maintained excellent performance for more than half a century after its birth.

Performance reputation (total output as high as 1,455 aircraft, except France, the purchase of more than 70 countries and regions around the world).

This lightweight, single-engine, seven-seater multi-purpose helicopter measures 12.84m in length, has a maximum takeoff weight of 2200kg, and a maximum cruising speed of 195km/h.

Not only that, this helicopter is equipped with a powerful "Abduste" IIIB turboshaft and can carry 3 crew members and 250 kilograms of material at a time and fly to high altitudes above 6000 meters above sea level.

Therefore, India chose these “Skylark” III helicopters to strengthen their transport capability in the highlands as well as to strengthen their combat forces in the air.

In addition to buying, they asked France to mass-produce them in their own country. According to records, France, which has always established large-scale arms sales cooperation with India, quickly agreed to this deal.

Unfortunately, now the flying elephant is a memory. The Indian military considers the helicopter to be part of a glorious history that should be remembered with pride.

The name of this helicopter is 'Chetak', named after the legendary horse of the 16th-century Rajput ruler Maharana Pratap, which worked as the workhorse of the IAF for close to 45 years.

THE LOVE STORY OF HELOISE & PETER ABELARD - A TRAGIC LOVE STORY

THE LOVE STORY OF HELOISE & PETER ABELARD

Photo: people.wku.edu

This love story is not only famous in Europe, but also in almost the whole world. Forget the fictional story between Romeo and Juliet by the famous artist named William Shakespeare. That's because the original love story that happened to Peter Abelard (Petrus Abelardus) and Heloise was no less tragic.

According to the ThoughtCo page, Abelard is a philosopher and clergyman from France. He was born in the region of Nantes, more precisely in the village of Le Pallet in 1079. Some historical records state that Abelard was one of the theologians and writers who were sharpest and dared to express freedom in human rights in his time.

Because Abelard was quite a respected and respected figure, he had many students. Naturally, Abelard became one of the philosophers who are very intelligent and can assemble the principles of science into religious dogmas. One of Abelard's students was a girl named Heloise d'Argenteuil who was the niece and pride of the ruling figure at the time, Fulbert (Fulbertus).

In short, Abelard and Heloise became lovers even though they were 22 years apart--Abelard was older. When Heloise's uncle found out about the relationship, he separated the two. The two couples ran away and married secretly. However, their secret marriage was finally caught by the public and Heloise's uncle.

Because Abelard felt Heloise was in danger, he sent his wife to a convent to disguise herself as a nun. Fulbertus in his power immediately ordered several people to torture and castrate Abelard. After Abelard was tortured and castrated, he decided to become a monk at the Monastery of Saint Dionysius, Paris. In subsequent times, Abelard continued to serve as a monk in various monasteries in France. He was forced to become a monk until his death in 1142.

How about Heloise? No less sad than Abelard, Heloise was forced to become a nun because her love story was really condemned by many people at that time. At the time of Abelard's death, his body was secretly delivered to Heloise. It is said that Heloise cared for Abelard's remains and secret tomb until his death in 1163. In the end, their bones were buried next to each other in Pere Lachaise Cemetery, Paris.

AMALA & KAMALA, THE TEEN WOLVES

AMALA & KAMALA, THE TEEN WOLVES

Basically, a newborn child will be cared for and raised by his parents. Newborn children when growing up will learn to socialize with the surrounding environment.

But unlike other children, there are some children who live and grow up away from human contact from a very young age.

They don't even have the experience of how to be human, whether it's how to take care of themselves, social behavior, love, or language.

Usually, they are called 'wild children'.

Well, even though it sounds like a fairy tale, it really happened. One of them is the story of Amala and Kamala, the most famous. The two girls in India were raised by a female wolf.

As the story goes, in 1920, Pastor J.A.L. Singh saw a mother wolf and her cubs. Two of them had long matted hair and looked like humans.

After considerable preparation and difficulty, the two girls were finally captured.

They turned out to be two girls whose ages Singh rated at around eight and one and a half.

They were then taken to an orphanage in Mindapore, India, where the pastor and his wife live.

Singh described them as 'wolfish' or wolf-like, be it appearance or demeanor.

They crawl, love raw meat, and steal it when the opportunity arises.

They lick all the liquid with their tongues and eat food in a crouched position.

Their tongues permanently hang over their thick red lips. Also, their behavior was panting like a wolf.

They never sleep after midnight and roam and howl at night.

They move very fast like squirrels and it is very difficult to catch up with them.

They avoid society and if approached will grin baring teeth.

It is known that their hearing is also very strong and can smell meat from a great distance.

Not only that, but while they can't see well during the day, they can adjust well at night.

In September 1921, both girls fell ill, and Amala, the younger one, died.

Mrs. Singh then took care of Kamala as best she could and made her learn to be human.

After five years in the orphanage, Kamala began to show intellectual function.

She knows some of the names of the babies kept in the orphanage, understands the concept of color, accepts food only from her plate, and recognizes her own glass.

Kamala also learned a lot about the language of speech.

Then in 1928 came an invitation from the Psychological Society of New York who wanted to expose Kamala to the public.

However Kamala became weak because of it, her health declined throughout the year, and then died in November 1929.

WHY DID KOTEX EXIST? - THE HISTORY OF FIRST SANITARY NAPKIN

 WHY DID KOTEX EXIST?

Hey ladies, do you know that this famous brand of sanitary napkin actually has a function that is much different from what you know?

The Kotex is one of those wartime inventions that was first marketed in the 1920s, but the product itself has been around since the 1870s.

The company, named Kimberly-Clark, was an American paper company that produced bandages from "Cellucotton" material for World War I.

After the war ended in 1919, executives looked for ways to use Cellucotton until they finally got the idea of making it a bandage from the American Fund for the French Wounded.

Kimberly Clark named her product Kotex, and there is a reason behind the choice of this name. The Kotex brand came from observations of the company's employees who found that the product had a cotton-like texture. To make it easier to mention, instead of writing Cot-tex, it was Kotex that Kimberly Clark finally chose.

The institute apparently got a letter from the Army nurses claiming that they used the surgical dressings as sanitary napkins.

What's more, the Cellucotton material is five times more absorbent than cotton bandages and is inexpensive.

After various rejections and socialization, Kimberly-Clark agreed to manufacture the first Kotex sanitary napkins and products for sale in October 1919 in Chicago!

THE HISTORY OF THE STETHOSCOPE, STARTING WITH THE DISCOMFORT OF STICKING THE EAR TO THE CHEST

THE HISTORY OF THE STETHOSCOPE, STARTING WITH THE DISCOMFORT OF STICKING THE EAR TO THE CHEST

The stethoscope is one of the most widely used by health workers. In fact, this tool is easily found in stores freely.

However, do you know when and how the stethoscope was invented?

The stethoscope was invented by a French doctor named René Laennec in 1816. At that time, he was having a patient, a woman with heart problems who was overweight.

Quoted from the Brought to Life page, before the stethoscope was invented, doctors examined patients by placing their ears directly on the chest or back. This practice is called auscultation.

Laennec at that time felt uncomfortable examining the woman with the traditional practice. In addition, obesity also makes the examination difficult to do.

In his writings in De l'Auscultation Médiate published in August 1819, Laennec recounted his experience.

"The other method just mentioned (direct auscultation) was deemed unacceptable by the age and sex of the patient," Laennec wrote as quoted from Past Medical History.

However, the doctor who was born in 1781 remembered a simple technique he had learned. Laennec immediately rolled a piece of paper into something like a cylindrical tube and stuck it to the heart area on one side, while the other side on his ear.

"And I was not the least bit surprised and delighted to find that I was able to feel the movement of the heart in a much clearer and different way than I had ever done with direct application of the ear," he said.

Laennec then continued his discovery by making a version made of wood that could be used every day. He called it a stethoscope which comes from the Greek words 'stetos' for chest and 'scopos' or examination.

In 1819, he presented his findings at the Académie de Médecine. There, the stethoscope was welcomed and began to be used by doctors throughout Europe, then continued to the United States and the rest of the world.

In 1840, the British physician Golding Bird invented a more flexible stethoscope with a "hose." The design continued to be changed by doctors around the world until in 1851, Irish physician Arthur Leared created the first binaural stethoscope.

Meanwhile, the first electronic stethoscope was produced in the 1970s and continues to be refined. How about Laennec?

The inventor of the stethoscope died in 1826 at the relatively young age of 45 years. Ironically, Laennec died of tuberculosis.

Before his death, Laennec said that the stethoscope was the greatest legacy in his life.

HISTORY OF BRAILLE & NAPOLEON BONAPARTE

HISTORY OF BRAILLE & NAPOLEON BONAPARTE'S COURIER

The United Nations has designated January 4 as World Braille Day. This date was chosen based on Louis Braille's birthday, although he was not the first to create Braille.

So, what was the creation of Braille, which until now has been a means of reading for the blind? The following is the history of Braille as quoted from the Brailleworks website.

Braille was invented by a French soldier named Charles Barbier. At that time Barbier, who was a member of Napoleon Bonaparte's army, created a unique writing system for the benefit of war. At that time, many courier soldiers died while sending messages because they were still using lighting.

Departing from the courier rescue mission earlier, Barbier created a unique writing system in the early 1800s. The writing system was called "Night Writing" which the troops used to communicate at night without lighting. Therefore, this writing system does not require sight.

Also known as Barbier's Sonography, this paper uses a table consisting of 12 cells. Each cell consists of 6 lined holes. Barbier's writing system is a combination of embossed dots based on the location of the holes in the cell.

Unlike the Roman writing system, which is written and read from left to right, the Barbier writing system is read from left to right but is written from right to left. This is because the embossed dots produced on the new paper texture can be felt by the fingertips when the paper is turned over first.

Meanwhile, in a small village in Coupfray, France, lives an 8-year-old blind boy, named Louis Braille. This child later became friends with Barbier a few years after the French war ended. Braille then adopted the writing system created by Barbier to communicate efficiently with other blind friends.

Later, when Louis Braille was accepted to study at The National Institute for the Blind, Braille developed Barbier's sonography into writing for the blind in a more structured manner. Braille reduces the number of cells in the Barbier table by half to just 6 cells.

Braille only uses 6 cells because fingers are better suited to using 6-cell combination points. If the cells are many it can produce a more diverse combination of letters. However, too many cells will make the finger no longer sensitive to the point.

This Braille writing system can eventually help the blind write and read faster. Hundreds of years later, the writing system became a way of communicating, the only time the blind had to read or write before the world finally entered the digital age.

ROLLER COASTER - MADE TO AVOID SINS

ROLLER COASTER - MADE TO AVOID SINS

The roller coaster rides that go fast at a high place successfully make adrenaline rise while having fun with friends and family.

However, you must know that the purpose of creating a roller coaster is quite strange and noble, you know!

LaMarcus Thompson, the inventor of this thrilling ride, created it so that American society would stay away from sin.

If you know, Americans at that time were being influenced by wealth and urbanization so they often went to theaters and brothels for fun.

Thompson is inspired when he sees people riding mining railroad cars for fun - which is certainly not sinful.

Finally, the socks entrepreneur opened the first roller coaster ride called The Switchback Railway in Brooklyn, New York.

The History

Before being known as the father of the roller coaster, Thompson was a carpenter as a teenager until in 1873 he started to operate a grocery store in Elkhart, Indiana. It was there that he began designing socks to sell but as his health deteriorated he eventually went out of business and came up with the idea of making a roller coaster while on a trip to Carbon County, a mining hub.

The trip was quite interesting because it passed several hills with a height of almost 2300 feet, high enough and made some of the tourists who were with him scream with joy. Then, the idea of making a roller coaster appeared in his mind.

Long story short, he also managed to make a roller coaster with a height of 50 feet and a length of 600 feet with a speed of 10 mph on Coney Island. At first glance, this game created by Thompson is indeed quite standard, but at that time, it was a big discovery that no one had thought of before. Before many people imitated his idea, Thompson first patented his work.

Thompson's patent rights made him skyrocket, he also made roller coasters with a variety of creative ideas by building higher, faster, and steeper roller coasters. Not only that, he adds visuals to make the ride even more exciting by adding tunnels, lights, unique views, and even more comfortable seats.

Each version of Scenic Railway is made more complicated than the previous version, which includes more updates and a variety of visuals. Most notable is the installation in Venice, California which opened in 1910, the path is quite beautiful with lights, artificial hills, and a replica of the temple that he finally made exactly like at Disney.

Thompson got many projects for his success. He seems to have lived for roller coasters, he even died while working on a roller coaster project at Luna Park Melbourne, Australia in 1919. Because of his consistency and contribution, this Ohio-born scientist was finally named the Father of Roller Coasters and is known as a successful businessman for rides.

BLOODY PALM OIL PLANTATION IN INDONESIA

BLOODY PALM OIL PLANTATION IN INDONESIA

Investigations carried out by the BBC, The Gecko Project and Mongabay found that communities could potentially lose trillions of rupiah each year, as palm oil companies fail to fulfill their obligations to develop plasma, as mandated by law.

The Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) or Orang Rimba in Tebing Tinggi Village, South Sumatra, admitted to handing over their land to a palm oil company in 1995, which they said promised future prosperity.

After three generations, their land had been turned into oil palm plantations, but the Orang Rimba went through prison and poverty. This is just one of more than a hundred conflicts over oil palm plantations in the last ten years related to plasma - a system that was originally aimed at building prosperity and establishing self-reliance in local communities.

The Orang Rimba Tebing Tinggi have now dispersed, and some of them live in other people's gardens with huts made of wood and tarpaulin. This land belongs to someone else, said Mat Yadi, one of the chiefs of the Orang Rimba Tebing Tinggi tribe. "We took refuge here because we were evicted by the company after our land was taken over by the company," said Mat Yadi. In the beginning, Mat Yadi said, the Anak Dalam Tribe had customary forest lands which he called "very important for our livelihood, our children and grandchildren."

"[The customary land] was handed over to the company, but in fact, nothing was returned to us, everything has been taken. This promise was a lie," continued Mat Yadi. In the period 1995-1996, according to Suku Anak Dalam, PT London Sumatra Indonesia (PT Lonsum) offered a nucleus-plasma oil palm plantation partnership.

Plasma plantations are plasma areas developed by the core company with plantation crops. Meanwhile, plasma farmers or participating farmers are farmers who are designated as recipients of plasma plantation ownership and are domiciled in the plasma area.

The Rimba Tebing Tinggi people agreed to hand over their land to the company and in return, they said, the company promised to return some of their lands to them, with oil palm planted. "PT Lonsum wants to meet face-to-face with the community with the aim of opening a garden, the way is by working with partners," said Rebani bin Hasyim, who at that time served as Secretary of Tebing Tinggi Village. At that time, Orang Rimba claimed to own 2,500 hectares of customary forest in Tebing Tinggi Village - one of the oldest naturally formed villages in South Sumatra. Of the 2,500 hectares, according to their records, 1,100 hectares will be given as plasma to transmigrant groups from Karya Makmur Village.

Meanwhile, the rest, covering an area of 1,400 hectares has promised to build a plasma plantation, the proceeds of which will become the rights of the Orang Rimba. "The goal is for the welfare of the community," added Rebani, who said that at that time he had kept a verbal promise from PT Lonsum. Now, the palm trees planted by PT Lonsum have grown tall and harvested many times. The results are taken to processing plants and produce multi-million dollar palm oil.

But more than a quarter of a century later, the Suku Anak Dalam admit they never received any of the promised benefits. During these two decades of land conflict, the profits from such a large plantation may have exceeded USD $30 million or more than IDR 430 billion.

Since the 1970s, the Indonesian government has encouraged companies to establish plantations for local communities or transmigrant groups under the "Intiplasma" partnership scheme. The company partners with the community; manage land into plantations whose capital comes from banks or other loans. Then, the cost of capital is returned by the farmer by way of installments from the crop deductions. In this partnership, the company gets a share of plantations from land handed over by the community or the state, referred to as the "core". While the part of community plantation land is referred to as "plasma". However, as the number of plantation companies in Indonesia grows, accusations begin to emerge against companies breaking their promises – and legal obligations – to provide plasma.

Based on media reports and other sources, the research identifies allegations that the community has made more than 150 palm oil companies for failing to provide plasma over the past ten years. An analysis by BBC Indonesia with The Gecko Project and Mongabay of the best available data from the government paints a bleak picture, showing that palm oil companies have failed to provide hundreds of thousands of hectares of plasma to communities. Tens of thousands of families in Indonesia have the potential not to receive plasma and cumulatively lose trillions of rupiah per year that should be theirs.

Meanwhile, the Suku Anak Dalam or Orang Rimba now live side by side with poverty. The Orang Rimba Tebing Tinggi, which according to data from the Orang Rimba Advocacy Team numbered about 571 families, are now living in dispersal. Some live in people's gardens, like Mat Yadi. Some have migrated to neighboring villages. "SAD no longer has a livelihood or daily life. If you want to do gardening, you don't have a forest, you don't want to cut jelutung [wood], or you don't have any forest contents anymore, because it has been turned into an oil palm plantation. "SAD's last hope is the promised plasma. PT Lonsum," said Orang Rimba's lawyer, Mustika Yanto.

Medi Iswanda, a member of the Tebing Tinggi Orang Rimba Advocacy Team, said that the community had been carrying out "actions and demonstrations" since 2001. The community had also complained about the plasma issue to the government, from the local government to the Musi Rawas Regional People's Representative Assembly, but could not find a solution. At the 2013 Musi Rawas Regional People's Representative Assembly Commission I meeting, for example, it was stated that PT Lonsum "had no reference and did not know the location of the land". In this official report, it is also stated that the Hak Guna Usaha (HGU) letter number 10 of 2000 which is owned by PT Lonsum is odd.

In an agreement in 2015, PT Lonsum was said to be willing to build a plasma plantation for the Orang Rimba Tebing Tinggi. However, Orang Rimba said, it was a promise for the umpteenth time. The promises that have not been realized, said Orang Rimba, have exhausted their patience.

In early 2017, some of the Suku Anak Dalam established huts and installed boundary markers over the replacement land they claimed was promised by PT Lonsum, as a form of protest. However, they said, the huts made of wood and tarpaulin were then forcibly dismantled. In retaliation, the protesters detained the company's Dutro Truck Dam car. The local government tried to mediate, but the demonstrators did not get a definite answer.

"If there's no resolution today, we'll just burn it. We'll burn the Lonsum security post first as a warning," someone shouted, according to court records at a later trial. Hearing the command, some residents returned to action. With cars and motorbikes, they took wood and diesel oil that had been wrapped in plastic, then headed to the security post and the division office of PT Lonsum Sei Kepayang Estate.

They broke the windows with stones and machetes. They collect the dried palm leaves and then burn them. An amateur video recorded an image of PT Lonsum's office engulfed in flames.

'Muted by violence'

"Ask for our rights, our land has been taken by PT Lonsum," said Lina, a descendant of Orang Rimba, when asked why she took part in the 2017 action. The night after the big demonstration, the police raided the huts and houses of the Orang Rimba. About 45 people were imprisoned, six of whom were women - Lina was one of them. "He broke the door, smashed it. He went straight into the room, to arrest us. There was a small child, he almost stepped on here," said Lina with tears in her eyes. After six months in prison, Lina admitted that she spent more time "praying, reading the Koran in prison."

Another Orang Rimba who was detained at the police station also admitted to being abused. "Without being questioned we were beaten [until] bleeding. We were beaten with batons," said Johan, an elder of Orang Rimba. "No family dared to visit for fear of being arrested.

The action that ended in the imprisonment of the community became part of the spotlight of the BBC Indonesia investigative project. BBC Indonesia counts that there have been at least 126 public protests against palm oil companies in 17 provinces over the past ten years, all of which are related to plasma issues.

Of these cases, the highest was in South Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, Riau, and West Kalimantan - all of which are areas with the largest oil palm plantations in Indonesia. Generally, conflicts end with the community being subjected to "tremendous intimidation and terror" with the involvement of security forces and thugs, said Sri Palupi of ESC Rights. "Until now [several] conflicts have not been resolved, and the conflicts have been quelled by violence.

SAD STORY - HAM, THE FIRST CHIMPANZEE IN SPACE

SAD STORY - HAM, THE FIRST CHIMPANZEE IN SPACE

Photo: Nasa

It was 59 years ago, that Ham became the first chimpanzee to land in space on January 31, 1961. Born in Cameroon around 1957, Ham was captured and taken to the Miami Rare Bird Farm, as quoted from the savethecimps.org page.

In July 1959, Ham was transferred to the Holloman Air Force military base in Alamogordo, NM to be trained in spaceflight as part of Project Mercury.

At that time, Ham was still known as Chang or #65. The name Ham stands for "Holloman Aero Medical".

Ham along with two other young chimpanzees, Minnie and Enos were deliberately trained indoors and sat in chairs for long periods of time.

Not only that, but they also learn to operate levers in response to light cues.

After 18 months of training, Ham was selected as the chimpanzee who could survive the risks of space security.

On January 31, 1961, after several hours of waiting on the launch pad in Cape Canaveral, FL, then 3.5-year-old Ham was flown into space strapped to a chair. Ham's flight lasted about 16.5 minutes at a speed of about 5,800 mph to an altitude of 157 miles above the earth.

Despite the high speed, Ham did his job well. However, Ham's space capsule fell 130 miles from its target.

It took several hours for the space carrier to reach Ham's position. Ham was found alive and relatively calm.

When he was removed from the driver's seat, his face broke into a wide smile.

Although some people interpret the smile as an outpouring of happiness, it is one of extreme fear and anxiety feeling.

This fear was demonstrated again some time later in his refusal when photographers snapped a photo of Ham in his chair.

Unlike other extraterrestrial chimpanzees, Ham was spared decades of biomedical research.

But he had feelings of loneliness for several years, so he had to be transferred to the National Zoo in 1963 and spent 17 years alone there.

After that, Ham was returned to the North Carolina Zoo and lived with the other chimpanzees.

Ham died on January 18, 1983, at the age of 26 years or 22 years after his historic flight.

Ham's bravery and heroism paved the way for Alan Shepard Jr., the first American in space.

THE MYSTERY OF THE CRUEL EXPERIMENT AGAINST DONALD & GUA

A human baby raised with chimpanzees "became more ape-like than human", before tragically taking his own life later in life. Animal psychologist Winthrop Niles Kellogg and his wife Luella conducted a strange experiment in the 1930s.

They raised a chimpanzee named Gua, along with their son Donald, as "brother and sister". However, the couple got a result that fell short of their expectations, when their son Donald ended up behaving more like an ape than a human.

Kellogg was fascinated by the idea of children being raised in the wild with little or no human assistance. He felt the best way to try to replicate that in reverse, was to bring the chimpanzee into his home. He knew leaving a human child in the wilderness was morally reprehensible. So instead, he chose to bring baby animals into modern society.

On June 26, 1931, the Kelloggs welcomed their new family, a baby chimpanzee named Gua, whom they would raise with their son, Donald. Gua was seven and a half months old and Donald was slightly older at 10 months when the experiment began.

The experiment was claimed to have been carried out in an attempt to see if the environment would influence the development of chimpanzees, and to what extent they could resemble humans.

For the next nine months, 12 hours a day, seven days a week, Kellogg and his faithful wife, both comparative psychologists, ran test after test on Donald and Gua.

Donald and Gua were raised in exactly the same way. They were both dressed in baby clothes, made to sit in a high chair, slept in bed, and were kissed goodnight, even though I was taken in a small carriage.

Gua was also treated according to what a parent would do when raising a baby girl. Meanwhile, Kellogg runs a series of tests on Gua and Donald.

He began examining "blood pressure, memory, body size, streak, reflexes, depth perception, vocalizations, locomotion, reactions to tickling, strength, manual dexterity.

Kellogg also tested problem-solving skills, fear, balance, play behavior, climbing, and obedience, grasping, language comprehension, attention span, etc.," note the authors of The Psychological Record, reports The Sun.

According to one report, Kellogg would tap Donald and Gua's heads with a spoon, to hear the difference in the sound of their skulls. He would also make loud noises to see who would react faster.

They even tried to convince Gua not to eat soap bubbles by putting a bar of soap product in his mouth. Scary footage from the experiment shows Gua and Donald being put on high chairs and spun around until they start crying.

They are also encouraged to complete cruel tests. Where they are put in a maze and forced out by changing obstacles around them.

For a while, Gua excelled in this practice compared to Donald. But after they were both one year old, things started to change. Gua's physical advantage is slowly being eclipsed by Donald's ability to formulate words. The doctors soon realized that they had reached the limits of the chimpanzee's intelligence.

The authors in The Psychological Record said Kelloggs' experiment "perhaps performed better than any study of its time, in demonstrating the limitations heredity placed on an organism. That was despite the environmental opportunities as well as the developmental advantages that can be made in a modern environment".

But the experiment suddenly ended for no reason, the publication said, adding: "Our final concern is why the project ended when it did." "We were only told that research was stopped on March 28, 1932, when Gua was returned to the primate colony of Orange Park through a gradual rehabilitation process.

The test was planned to run for five years, but the process was halted after only nine months. There were rumors as to why the test was canceled, including claims it happened because the Gua had become too powerful and might have been a danger to Donald.

Another theory is that they are simply exhausted from nine months of non-stop parenting and scientific work.

Gua shows no signs of learning human language. But Donald, on the other hand, began to imitate his chimpanzee voice. "In short, Donald's language retardation may have put an end to this research," write the authors of The Psychological Record.

What's more, OZY reports, Luella Kellogg is becoming increasingly worried that Donald is becoming more like a chimp than a human. Gua and Donald will wrestle in a more chimp-like fashion. I had even taught his “older brother” how to spy on people under the door.

Donald started biting people and crawling like his “sister.” He grunts and barks like he does when he wants more food.

Gua was later expelled and died of pneumonia just a year later at the age of 3. Meanwhile, not much is known about Donald. He later committed suicide at the age of 43, in 1973.

Kellogg continued to work at Florida State University where he conducted research on bottlenose dolphins and sonar until his retirement in 1963. He and his wife Luella both died in the summer of 1972.

DO YOU KNOW - LINCOLN AND KENNEDY HAVE STRANGE THINGS IN COMMON

LINCOLN & KENNEDY HAVE STRANGE THINGS IN COMMON

Two former presidents of the United States, named Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy, share many miraculously similar coincidences. Both were killed by bullets that went through the back of the head; both died on Friday; both were killed before the big day (Kennedy was killed the day before Thanksgiving, Lincoln was killed before Easter); and when that happened they were accompanied by their wife and another husband and wife.

But there's more! The two have a friend named Billy Graham, they both have four children, both have secretaries whose names are each other (Kennedy's secretary was named Mrs. Lincoln and Lincoln's secretary was named John), and both had a vice president named Johnson!

After the fateful accident happened, Charles' cell phone made repeated calls to his fiancé, sister, stepmother, and brother. But every time they picked up, they didn't hear anything, and when they called back, they found that his cell phone was dead. Charles's family could only hope that Charles survived and tried to call them to give them the news.

When rescue teams tracked Charles' phone signal, they found Charles' body under the wreckage of the train. After an investigation, they concluded that Charles died instantly when the collision occurred and he couldn't possibly have called. By the way, they never found his cell phone.

MANILA FILM CENTER TRAGEDY

MANILA FILM CENTER TRAGEDY

The building seemed to stand firmly with 12 supporting pillars in front of it. Great impression. It is a symbol of the ambition of first lady Imelda Marcos by arguing that the Philippines has a national film development center.

                    Photo: Twitter

Started to be built in 1981 with a fund of USD 25 million, the building in the center of the capital city of Manila is certainly the hope of Filipino filmmakers. Imelda Marcos, the wife of the late Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, came up with the idea for the building. Four thousand workers were deployed day and night without stopping. Really it was a lighthouse project at that time.

Hundreds of engineers brainstormed to make the building respected. Unmitigated, UNESCO was also involved in the construction of this luxurious building. But unfortunately, the smell of nepotism is very strong. Imelda Marcos appointed her close friend, Betty Benitez, to lead the project. Since the beginning of construction, all parties are optimistic that it will succeed on time until the fateful event arrives.

On November 17, 1981, at three o'clock in the morning, the workers were at work and the foreman was keeping an eye on them. Suddenly the support frame of the roof of the building collapsed. 169 workers who were working fell to the ground, some died on the spot, and others groaned in pain. They landed on quick-drying mortar, right in the theater room.

In the silence of that morning, Marcos was awakened by the sound of the telephone announcing that an accident had occurred at his proud project. The crazy thing is, until he is ready to give a press statement, no ambulance or rescue team is allowed to come to save the victims. Only nine hours later they were allowed to enter the location.

12 workers were left buried alive. Until it was unveiled in January 1982, no one was allowed to talk about the incident. The people are silenced. Since then, supernatural sightings and supernatural activities are believed to be a form of anger for the workers, especially in the theater area where they died. The building is also believed to be one of the most haunted in the world.

In a 2005 documentary about supernatural activity, the deadly accident 23 years ago is re-enacted. So the bodies of the workers were exhumed and properly buried. However, the building is still haunted. Perhaps the anger of the spirits of the workers could not be replaced with anything.

THE TINDER SWINDLER - SHIMON HAYUT

THE TINDER SWINDLER - SHIMON HAYUT

Everyone must know about this Tinder app. Especially for those who are still single and have a more adventurous soul in love. But if you rely too much on this app to find your soulmate, then you have to be careful. The reason is, this application is often misused by irresponsible people. One of them is the story of the playboy from Israel, Shimon Hayut or better known in Europe as Simon Leviev.

Simon Leviev cost many women up to 10 million dollars.

He has Simon Leviev's Instagram account @simon_leviev_official but has now been banned by Instagram. Simon Leviev's Instagram account now appears with the name @simon_hsyut_official.

On the Tinder app, Simon Leviev on Tinder claims to be the son of Lev Leviev, owner of the diamond company LLD Diamonds.

To make sure that he is a rich man and a diamond tycoon, he also flaunts his wealth through social media.

Through this Tinder app, Simon Leviev goes on a date and looks for women he can trick so he can earn money.

Many women are tempted by the looks and wealth of Simon Leviev. Three of them, Cecille Fjellhoy, Pernilla Sjoholm, and Ayleen Charlotte, are Norwegians living in England. They also tell that Simon is a charismatic man, and treats them like princesses.

Simon always gave various luxury items to the women. In addition, traveling by private plane, either jet. The women who are intoxicated by falling in love also become his lovers.

However, Simon takes advantage of it by borrowing the woman's credit card and money.

This starts with him going out of town, for business reasons. But suddenly he called the woman and said if the enemy attacked. Makes his lovers afraid and worried.

The reasons that he didn't want to be tracked by his enemy, a series of requests for access to credit cards, personal loans, and plane tickets, were asked by Simon Leviev to Cecilie and his other female victims.

Simon also assured them that he would pay the money back. The lovers also believed in Simon's persuasion.

Simon also apparently threatened that if they did not lend their credit card, they would report it to the police.

However, he fled to various countries and was secured in Finland in 2017. He was returned to Israel. However, before serving his sentence, he fled again.

The victims are not only from Norway but from various countries in the world. According to The Times of Israel, Simon Leviev has been indicted in Israel on charges of theft, forgery, and fraud in 2011.

Because he was caught using a fake passport, the man who was born on September 27, 1990 was finally arrested in Greece. The arrest was also thanks to Ayleen Charlotte, the target who became her lover at the time.

Simon was later jailed for crimes committed in his country, not for defrauding the many women he had known through Tinder.

He was sentenced to 15 months, but only served 5 months for good behavior, and on the grounds of reducing the number of inmates during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is certainly very regrettable to the victims. Because Simon is living freely while they still have to pay the credit card debt that Simon has used.

Now Simon Leviev is a free man in Israel, even though he is wanted in Europe. He is now creating a website offering paid business advice under the name 'Business and Personal Success: Workshop of Simon Leviev' for a listing fee of $311.

Quoted from The National, Simon Leviev told VG Newspaper that he did not take the women's money. Even the women who take advantage of the money.

"Maybe their hearts were broken during the process. I never took a dime from them. They enjoyed themselves in my company, they traveled and saw the world on my dime," he said.

The true story of Simon Leviev's fraud was investigated in the case of The Tinder Swindler investigation by VG Newspaper, a well-known Norwegian newspaper. As a result, documentaries were also made which can now be watched on the Netflix platform.
